Meet Captain Killgore

Islamorada fishing in the Florida Keys is excellent. Capt. Rick Killgore will take you fishing with expertise and enthusiasm! Experienced anglers can rely on his skills and knowledge. Rick personally had two IGFA WORLD RECORDS caught on fly fishing tackle. Novice anglers will appreciate his patience and assistance. Women and children are welcome. Light tackle and fly fishing instruction are just two of his specialties (and he makes all his own flies).

Our Promise

At Islamorada Fishing Charters Florida Keys, we fish the right way—using fresh, live bait every single trip. Unlike many other guides who rely on store-bought bait or leftovers, Captain Killgore ensures you’re using the highest-quality bait to trigger those explosive tarpon strikes. It’s pure action as giant tarpon crash the surface, sometimes just 10 feet from the boat, creating an unforgettable adrenaline rush.

Our Story

Rick started professional fishing in 1978 before his 16th birthday, and grew up fishing the flats and offshore waters of Key Biscayne, Miami. He finally landed in Islamorada in 1995 after charter fishing Costa Rica (as featured in Salt Water Sportsman, March 1991), St. Thomas, Mexico, Bahamas, and South Florida. Rick found the truth in Islamorada’s reputation as “The Sports Fishing Capital of the World.” Many IGFA world records have been caught here. The fish Rick targets are prolific. There is an incredible variety of fish and fishing: from the flats, to the offshore, to the reef, to the Everglades backcountry, and out to the wrecks of the Gulf of Mexico.

From May 2016 to June 2021 Rick ran a 63′ Merritt sport fisherman “culminating a lifetime dream!” Great fish were caught, and interesting trips abroad and on anchor. They caught a 350 lb and a 95 lb swordfish on standard rod and reel (no electric); 4 blue marlin in 3 days for 6 hooked up; 5 sailfish in half a day; an est. 80 lb black grouper and a 65 lb cubera snapper on deep jigging spinning rods; and many sailfish, dolphin (mahi mahi), tunas, nice mutton snappers, groupers, yellowtail snappers, etc.

In June of 2021 the owner put the boat up for sale, and Rick is back “full time charter fishing!” So happy to be back to his life, and taking clients out to fulfill their “dream of a lifetime!”
